I declared this a rest day. We woke to a fresh 3 inches of snow, picturesque Alpine peaks and German cartoons. Our apartment includes several maps and brochures describing the surrounding ski resorts. My husband and children are “dying” to hit the slopes, but we need groceries, money and an electrical adaptor.
Other than the local bakery, our best chance for groceries is 6km away. Our day of rest quickly turns into a day of hiking when we spot a sign for a waterfall and ski jump. I’m still dressed for grocery shopping, but give in to the excitement of a hike up the jump. Five hundred snowy steps later, everyone is satisfied to look down the deathly drop and watch some local boys slide down.
The waterfall is raging with the start of the spring thaw. The snow is coming down in HUGE flakes. We try to imagine the gusto it takes to actually fly from this jump. A little more dramatic than the attempt on Wii ski. Well, back down to reality we stock up on supplies and head home. Tomorrow- we ski!
